| ROSEMARY CLOONEY / TENDERLY (5460) |
Kentucky-born Rosemary Clooney was one of the top female singers of the early '50s. She scored 26 chart hits in the '50s, then, after a period of personal difficulties, re-emerged in the '70s as a successful jazz & ballad singer. This 26 track compilation features her theme song, the million selling "Tenderly," as well as three other million sellers: "Come On-A My House" (with Stan Freeman's distinctive harpsichord), Hank Williams' "Half As Much," and the Italian novelty "Botch-A-Me". Rosemary also performs some memorable duets with Gary Mitchell, Marlene Dietrich, Gene Autry and Harry James. [Item Code: 38226 CD: $11.00]

| DORIS DAY / SECRET LOVE (5533) |
Doris von Kappelhoff (b.1924) became, as Doris Day, a major star fronting the Les Brown band, then went on to even greater heights in Hollywood, eventually to become one of the most successful box office stars of all time. A vivacious blond with freckles, she began as a tomboy (Calamity Jane) before being given a clean-living, girl-next-door image as America's perpetual virgin in sophisticated sex comedies. Oscar Levant famously quipped "I knew her before she was a virgin". Doris Day's clear, intriguing singing voice brought her 56 chart hits, the first 25 of which can be enjoyed on Early Days (CD AJA 5328). As a companion volume Secret Love (her million selling No.1 from Calamity Jane) takes the story on from 1947 to 1953. There are a further 14 chart hits including two other million sellers (A Guy Is A Guy and her duet with Frankie Laine, Sugarbush), as well as many wonderful ballad interpretations (That Old Feeling, The Very Thought Of You, With A Song In My Heart...) In addition to Frankie Laine, Doris also duets with Buddy Clark (Išll String Along With You), Donald OšConnor (No Two People) and Johnnie Ray (Letšs Walk That-A-Way).

| GEORGIA GIBBS / HER NIBBS, MISS GEORGIA GIBBS (5614) |
Georgia Gibbs - Vocalist. Massachusetts-born singer Fredda Gibbons (b.1920) is numbered among the most genuinely talented pop vocalists of the early and mid-50s. Her strong, accurate voice and jazz-tinged approach, honed through years of experience in the big band era with such as Frankie Trumbauer, Artie Shaw and Tommy Dorsey, prepared her well for a great solo career as 'Georgia Gibbs', with a string of record hits and her own radio show. Georgia Gibbs was first introduced as 'Her Nibs, Miss Gibbs' on Jimmy Durante's show, and that is the title of Living Era's fine selection of 28 numbers from her peak years. She had six top six hits (all included). Her sultry, throbbing voice is well suited to romantic ballads such as He's Funny That Way or It's The Talk Of The Town, but she can be equally thrilling belting out a red-hot jazz number like A-Razz-A-Ma-Tazz. | HELEN KANE / BOOP-BOOP-A-DOOP (5336) |
Living Era celebrates with the first-ever complete set of all 22 recordings she made for Victor between 1928 and 1930. Her Bronx accented little girl voice uniquely recreates the 'flapper' atmosphere of the 20s in hits such as Button Up Your Overcoat or That's My Weakness Now. But therešs more! Helen returned to the studios fully 20 years later, still Boop-Boop-A-Doop-ing. Five of these are included, among them a 1950 remake with Andre Previn, no less, of I Wanna Be Loved By You. | EARTHA KITT / C'EST SI BON (5639) |
Eartha Kitt - Vocals. Among the most exotic performers of all time, Eartha Kitt (b.1927 in South Carolina to black Cherokee and while parents) possesses such a distinctive style that she is utterly unique. With her purring drawl (she was 'Catwoman' in TV's Batman in the late 60s) she was the original 'sex kitten', and with her throaty singing and highly stylised image of mercenary world-weariness, she has become an icon. Living Era's She's So Good sums up the best of Eartha Kitt from 1952 to 1955. The 25 songs include the three forever associated with her that she introduced in her breakthrough performances in New Faces on stage and film: Monotonous, C'est si bon and Santa Baby. As befits such an accomplished Paris-trained nightclub entertainer, her repertoire is colourfully international; she sings songs in French (her Top Ten hit Under The Bridges Of Paris . . .), Spanish (Angelitis negros . . .), Swahili (African Lullaby) and Turkish (Uska dara)! There is also Tea In Chicago, the great song she sang when starring in the 1954 stage production Mrs. Patterson. The programme is full of such characteristic Eartha Kitt numbers as Let's Do It, I Want To Be Evil, My Heart Belongs To Daddy and Lilac Wine (recently revived by Katie Melua). | PEGGY LEE / LOVER (5644) |
Lee was not only an audible original, but a singer of many colours and moods. She could swing with carefree insouciance (or passionate intensity) at up-tempo, then bring to a ballad the kind of untouchable tenderness with which a mother holds her child. She could apply an irrepressibly mischievous sense of humour or conversely a touchingly vulnerable melancholy. [Item Code: 59512 CD: $11.00]

| GISELE MacKENZIE / CANADA'S FIRST LADY OF SONG (5545) |
This lively program presents her very best recordings of the early 50s. As befits "Canada's First lady Of Song", the program includes several French songs, and the opening and closing with different versions of her popular theme tune, Le Fiacre. The eclectic mix of old standards and new songs certainly demonstrates her versatility. Her first commercial recordings, that have never been issued on CD before, are here. | ROSE MURPHY / CHEE CHEE GIRL (5486) |
Immortalised by an inimitably tremulous, high-pitched, voice (you either like it or you don't) underpinned by a confident, breezy style at the keyboard, Rose Murphy continues to enjoy a steady nostalgia cult follwing, despite here having been something of a one-hit wonder. | PATTI PAGE / ALL MY LOVE (5489) |
Oklahoma-born singer Clara Ann Fowler is said to have sold more records during the 1950s than any other female artist, and as Patti Page, she sold an estimated 60 million-plus copies. All My Love was her first #1 song and it starts off this 28 track collection containing all nine of her million-sellers up to 1953 including The Tennessee Waltz, With My Eyes Wide Open I'm Dreaming, That Doggie In The Window, Mockin' Bird Hill and others. Also features ten less-frequently heard songs like "Whispering, I Love You Because and One Sweet Letter. [Item Code: 49793 CD: $11.00]

| JERI SOUTHERN / WHEN I FALL IN LOVE (5583) |
Soft, wistful, reflective....detached, even, are some of the adjectives coined to describe the singing of Jeri Southern, who is remebered still by many fans for her understated delivery of 'warm, intimate' cabaret songs, a rather enigmatic and certainly underestimated jazz performer whose highly individual style ranged easily through 'torch', 'cool', standards and pop. [Item Code: 56479 CD: $11.00]

| DOROTHY SQUIRES / HERE COMES ME (5495) |
Welsh-born Dorothy Squires was one of her country's most dynamic stage performers. This CD presents 79 minutes of her best recordings from 1947-52, from her first big record success ("The Gypsy") through to her greatest hit ("I'm Walking Behind You"). Dorothy's musical partnership with famous bandleader and songwriter Billy Reid is a notable feature, and no more than 13 Reid-penned songs are included, and his orchestra provides the backing for 20 tracks.
