PEPPER ADAMS
CRITICS' CHOICE | |
Description:
Park "Pepper" Adams was a jockey framed baritone saxophonist from Detroit with the declarative sound and a logical way with a line. Adams was called The Knife because when he'd get up to blow, his playing had almost a slashing effect on other musicians. He'd slash, chop, and before he was through, cut everybody down to size. that quality is present here on this CD, along with an attention to concision that Adams often discarded on East Coast sessions. So is the abundant wit and humanity that garnered Adams such universal admiration among his peer group. |
