BENNY BAILEY
BIG BRASS
Description:
This fine musician died in May, 2005 in Europe. Benny Bailey, every inch a trumpeter, was the kind of man whose sound would improve any brass section. This record, originally released in 1960, was made shortly after Benny returned to America after touring Europe with Quincy Jones's orchestra and the ill fated Harold Arlen blues Opera 'Free and Easy'. With the exceptions of Tommy Flanagan and Art Taylor, the men on this album the first Bailey made under his own name in the U.S. were part of the Quincy Jones Orchestra. Europe called Benny back soon after this Candid date, and for four decades he worked on the continent with studio orchestras as well the thrilling Kenny Clarke Francy Boland band.
