CHET BAKER

SEXTET

Description:
The Chet Baker Sextet recorded in september 1954 and originally issued on 10" LP features valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer and Bud Shank playing baritone sax rather than his usual alto. What's most unusual about this session is that Chet invited three of the best arrangers in Los Angeles, Jack Montrose, Johnny Mandel and Bill Holman, to write an original and arrange a standard. It was recently discovered that alternate takes of two of the tunes were released on EP and they are included here. Completing this CD is a remarkable 1957 session composed and arranged by Bob Zieff and previously only available in a Baker boxed set. This is a very different sort of sextet trumpet, French horn, bass clarinet, bassoon, cello and bass and the music is third stream in nature.
