KENNY BAKER

PRESENTS THE BAKER'S DOZEN – VOLUME ONE (1955) & PRESENTS THE HALF DOZEN (1957)

Description:
Trumpet legend and stalwart of Britain's 'trad' jazz scene of the 1950s, Kenny Baker is the subject of this particular Vocalion release. More to the point, it's Kenny Baker and his bands the Baker's Dozen and the Half Dozen who are heard on two albums they recorded in the mid '50s following the success of the BBC Radio show 'Let's Settle for Music', on which Kenny's band was the group in residence. Both albums feature stellar line ups including names such as George Chisholm trombone, Harry Hayes and Harry Klein saxes, Joe Mudele bass and Eric Delaney drums, among others. Kenny's golden trumpet sound is heard in numbers such as Puttin' on the Ritz, Bugle Call Rag, Keepin' Out of Mischief Now and many others as well as his original compositions including Baker's Boogie and Doo Dee. All in all this release is a fine tribute to a fine trumpeter and the superb musicians who populated his groups.
