This second volume of LaVern Baker's chronological recordings captures her at her commercial best; this compilation takes us through her subsequent rock 'n' roll era hits: "Bop Ting A Ling" 3, "That's All I Need" 6, "Play It Fair" 2 from 1955 and "My Happiness Forever" 13, "Get Up, Get Up You Sleepy Head" 15, "Still" 4, "I Can't Love You Enough" 7, "Jim Dandy" 1 and "Tra La La" 2, the latter having been featured in the Alan Freed film "Rock, Rock, Rock". Although used to laying down filler for her debut LP, the October 1956 session is particularly fine, consisting of updated versions of 1940s swing era hits that had earlier inspired LaVern.
