Then Bam! Sonny Payne brings that glorious roaring big band in, swinging mercilessly. Soloists on these great charts by Ernie Wilkins, Frank Foster, Quincy Jones, and Neal Hefti include Basie, Foster, Budd Johnson, Thad Jones, Snooky Young, and Henry Coker. Jon Hendricks sits in on a scat version of "Whirly Bird". Eight bonus tracks have been added to the original nine tune album and it's all remixed from the original three track masters.
