TEX BENEKE
AND HIS ORCHESTRA
MEMORIES
Description:
Because of the orchestra's original billing as "Tex Beneke And The Glenn Miller Orchestra," a considerable amount of erroneous conclusion was drawn, not only by the ballroom and radio audiences of that period, but also by certain "critics" who described this orchestra as "playing strictly in a sweet commercial style only." With such publicity, one can sympathize with audiences for firmly assuming that this was Glenn Miller's band being led by Miller's friend and band member, Tex Beneke which it was not. Listening to this CD should dispel that impression. This Beneke band is every bit as impressive as the mighty A.A.F. Band and should be heard in that context a great band at the peak of its power on this CD, 1947/1949, at the height of the swing era.
