TEX BENEKE

LEADING THE GLENN MILLER ORCHESTRA

MIDNIGHT SERENADE

Description:
Tex Beneke was the singer and tenor saxophonist with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and he was known for his amiable laid back style and often humourous duets with singer Marion Hutton. After Glenn Miller died during War War II, the Miller Estate persuaded Tex to take over the lead of the band which he did very successfully for a number of years. Not content to rest on Glenn's laurels by overworking the old catalog, Tex moved the band on with new tunes and implementations which enable us to hear the way the original band may have developed if Glenn Had Lived. That said this is a fine band in its own right and deserves to be heard by all lovers of swing and big band music.
