TEX BENEKE

WITH THE MILLER ORCHESTRA

PROM DATE

Description:
Saxophonist, bandleader and vocalist Tex Beneke is the subject of Vocalion 1950 'Prom Date, which compiles his 1940s/early '50s recordings made when he was leader of the reformed Glenn Miller Orchestra. Beneke had been a key figure in the original Glenn Miller Orchestra during its 1938 '42 heyday and when, after it's leaders mysterious disappearance, a tribute orchestra was formed in 1946 Beneke was the obvious choice to lead it. With vocalists such as Garry Stevens, Lillian Lane, Buddy Yeager and Tex himself on board, the band sail through 'Miller style' arrangements of numbers including Blues in the Night march from the film, Georgia on My Mind, Sunshine Cake from the film Riding High and The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi among many others.
