SPAIN / THE ALL-TIME TOP TANGOS

Description:
The album begins with 'La Cumparsita' the most famous tango of them all, written by the Spanish composer Gerardo Matos Rodriquez in 1917. The title refers to the colorfully dressed people who attend Spain's street carnivals with the vibrant nature of the composition perfectly reflecting an exciting outdoor event such as this. In contrast, the tempo is slowed somewhat for 'Paul Dupont's and Allan Stuart's beautiful "La Rosita" from 1923. "Amargura" represents yet another contrast, featuring a slow, bittersweet melody. Fittingly, this word translates into English as "the bitterness". Two more tangos from the twenties are represented in Edgar Donato's and Carlos Lenzi's lovely "A media luz" and "Mama, yo quiero un novio', written in 1927 by Ramon Collaza.
