EDDIE CALVERT
SONG OF THE GOLDEN TRUMPET | |
Description:
Lancastrian Eddie Calvert 1922 1978 stepped out from the ranks of the Billy Ternent and Geraldo bands of the 40s to become 'The Man With The Golden Trumpet', a hugely successful recording phenomenon, providing one of the distinctive sounds of the 50s. The Song Of The Golden Trumpet written for Calvert gives the title to Living Era's generous programme of 28 of Eddie Calvert's finest recordings from 1951 to 1955. All five of his chart hits of the period are here. Not once but twice he hit the jackpot with huge selling Number Ones; firstly with O mein Papa, then Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White with which he traded the top spot with Perez Prado. He thus became the first British instrumentalist to top the chart twice, and the first to earn a Gold Disc. The other hits are the film theme John And Julie, Stranger In Paradise and the lively Zambesi. But there are 23 more fine selections to receive the unmistakeable Eddie Calvert treatment including such favourites as Love Is A Many Splendoured Thing, My Son My Son, Roses Of Picardy, Tenderly, Some Enchanted Evening and perhaps as a follow up to 'Papa' O My Beloved Daddy. |
