BOB CHESTER

AND HIS ORCHESTRA

OCTAVE JUMP

Description:
The band which Bob Chester frontd in the late thirties and early forties was styled so much like that of Glenn Miller's that on one of Miller's tours, in an area which he had not yet explored but in which Chester was already popular, Miller was asked why he was copying the Chester sound. In later years Chester changed the band's style to emphasize swing, with musicians recruited from other swing bands. He always delivered good dance music sparked by his own tenor saxophone, and with arrangements occasionally written by David Rose and Gray Raines.
