KEN COLYER / LONNIE DONEGAN

THE BEST OF BRITISH JAZZ FROM THE BBC JAZZ CLUB VOLUME 1

Description:
This disc features three bands that all developed from the principles laid down by Ken Colyer. Upon his return from New Orleans the first "Jazzmen" were formed. These were recorded by The BBC World Service for a French radio show called "At the Jazz Band Ball" and includes the band's arrangements of the theme from "Moulin Rouge" a hit in its day. The line up evolved into the Chris Barber Band and Ken formed another band with Acker Bilk who leads his own band on the second selection from 1960. Bob Wallis played with Ken in the Omega Brass Band and here drives us out on the last four tracks with his Storyville Jazz Men.
