Ian Wheeler settles into playing with the band with no difficulty at all. The tunes were staple repertoire with The Colyer Jazzmen apart from two Wheeler specialties: his own Hollandaise backed by the Trust Band first time of playing with them and Right On from the Chris Barber Days included here for its atmosphere. throughout the concert, the band is swung along with another special guest, barrel house and blues piano man, John Clarke who recorded for 77 Records back in the fifties. A broadening interest in ragtime led John into bandwork with Cuff Billett, Sonny Morris and others. His distinctly percussive and melodic approach enhances the band to the greatest effect. This will prove to be an enduring chapter in the development of THe Ken Colyer New Orleans Jazz Band. Enjoy the music and enjoy this final sunset over Sand Bay.
