FIFTY YEARS ON - A CELEBRATION OF THE MUSIC OF KEN COLYER

Description:
On Saturday 17th April 2004, one day before what would have been Ken Colyer's 76th birthday, a rare gathering of the surviving players from the second and third Ken Colyer Jazzmen which included Acker Bilk, Ed O'Donnell, Colin Bowden and Micky Ashman, plus Peter Morcom, disciple of the late John Bastable and Ray SMith who had entered Ken's circle later following his mentor Ray Foxley were all assembled on stage. Enthusiastic gratitude was expressed over the occasion, led on trumpet by Jim Holmes, parade band colleague of Ken's and a player who knew what to do without copying Ken himself. The spirit is still there and can be heard throughout this CD making it a worthy tribute to a unique jazzman.
