THE SUNNY SIDE OF KEN COLYER
Description:
Late in 1971, Ken made contact with some of the musicians from earlier vintages of the Jazzmen Sammy Rimington, Colin Bowden, Ray Smith, appearing for this and other occasions as Ken Colyer's Allstars. On January 1st 1972 they appeared with him at Studio 51, Great Newport Street. THere followed regular Wednesday gigs at the 100 Club, Oxford Street. Bookings followed from the provinces, one of which was at The Dancing Slipper in Nottingham. The Dancing Slipper, Nottingham on 25th November 1972 was the first of three concerts, played and recorded that weekend and the venue where this CD was recorded. On the Sunday morning, a convoy of cars set off for York and the band played at St. Paul's Church hymns and spirituals in the afternoon, followed by a sell out concert at the York Arts Centre in the evening.
