JIM CULLUMJAZZ BAND
SHOOTIN' THE AGATE | |
Description:
On this very enjoyable Stomp Off CD, the Jim Cullum Jazz band performs 14 Jelly Roll Morton compositions plus one song "The Chant" associated with the innovative pianist composer bandleader. Cullum, a hot cornetist with a frequently exciting style, is heard in top form jamming through the classic numbers with his regular septet, a group also starring clarinetist Allan Vache, trombonist Mike Pittsley and pianist John Sheridan. Highlights of the release which is a good place to begin exploring Cullum's playing include "Kansas City Stomp," "The Pearls," "Black Bottom Stomp" and "Tank Town Bump." Their arrangements and approach to the music have evolved to display the brilliant interpretations present in this collection. |
