The material on this CD was based partly on modal pattern, which freed the musicians from constraints of the conventional song structure. "Kind Of Blue" was not the first album to explore modes, but it did much to popularise the concept. Modal was, so to speak, the new direction in music, a direction which John Coltrane developed further, with his quartet in the sixties. |
