Some like it tepid. Some like it hot. If you're one of those who likes it hot, how about sizzling! That's what the jazz on this CD is. Look at the band names, including Matthias Seuffert from Bonn, Germany. You get what you might expect and then some. The repertoire comes from Harlem hot bands who recorded in the 1920s, such as Fess Williams' Royal Flush Orchestra and Perry Bradford's Jazz Fools. Ted des Plantes doesn't back off one iota and gives the guys room to go at it and do they ever! Not for the faint of heart, this CD is really hot stuff. Melodic, yes, in the sense of classic jazz, but with a special energy that is truly exciting.
