JIMMY DORSEY

AND HIS ORCHESTRA

TRANSCRIPTIONS SESSIONS

Description:
This CD consists of twenty tunes made at a marathon transcription recording session in New York in September, 1935, shortly after the Dorsey Brothers had parted ways. The repertoire is mainly popular hit melodies and show tunes of the 1930's, exposed to a swinging dance band treatment. Fine vocals on many of the tunes are provided by Kay Weber and Bob Eberle. The Tommy Dorsey Band of 1935 was an important bridge between the hot "jazz age" and the more sophisticated "swing era".
