RICKY FORD

MANHATTAN BLUES

Description:
Ricky Ford is a musician of several substantial parts a powerful tenor saxophonist, a highly original composer and a teacher at Brandels University. Ricky has worked with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Charles Mingus Dynasty, Lionel Hampton, The Newport All Stars and Ibdullah Ibrahim. His colleagues form an 'All American' rhythm section Jaki Byard, an authentic original, 'The Judge' Milt Hiton a player of seemingly endless energy ad Monk's long time drummer, Ben Riley. Together they make superlative, inventive, genuine jazz music. "Manhattan Blues" is indeed as genuine as jazz can get. Nat Hentoff says this album strikes me as his most impressie so far, both with regard to his passionate playing here and the range and challenging nature of the originals.
