JACQUES GAUTHE / ALAIN MARQUET
PARIS BLUES | |
Description:
This recording brings together two of the best traditional jazz clarinetists both greatly influenced by Johnny Dodds and Sidney Bichet. That alone would not assure a successful session, as two clarinets improvising simultaneously is a "tricky business" but these two mesh beautifully, trading lead and counter melody roles. And the rest of the band, with tailgate counterpoint from Daniel Barda and stride piano by Louis Mazetier, provide a solid underpinning for the proceedings. This is clarinets to the fore, and the enjoyment of Jacques and Alain in playing with each other is apparent throughout. |
