THE GENIUS OF GEORGE GERSHWIN

Description:
Because the melodies of George Gershwin were so far ahead of their time, not everyone realizes how far back they actually go. These recordings are all contemporary arrangements made when the shows first opened either in London or New York so some may sound a little strange to ears accustomed to hearing later and consequently more sophisticated versions. If some of the early ones sound a little irreverant it is because they are applying the style of teh 20s to songs more suited to the 40s or 50s. This double CD is a fabulous collection for those who want to hear how the original sounds of George Gershwin were played.
