Description:
George Gershwin 1898 1937 was essentially self taught and was first a song plugger in Tin Pan Alley and an accompanist. In his teens he began to compose popular songs and produced a succession of musicals from 1919 to 1933 with lyrics generally provided by brother Ira 1896 1983. Gershwin went to Hollywood in 1936 to write songs for films. This collection features 21 Gershwin tunes as performed by such names as Miles Davis, Billie Holiday, Bill Evans & Jim Hall, Carmen McRae, Louis Armstrong and many more.
