Description:
To boost morale of the fighting forces overseas, the U.S. government established the V Disc label exclusively for the benefit of its military personnel to whom these discs were distributed for free. Initially, tracks were often sourced from the back of catalogues of major labels such as Capitol, Columbia and RCA Victor before a programme of organising regular sessions to specially record brand new tracks was by a team. Apart from this, additional material was drawn from a number of different sources such as live concerts, radio broadcast, hitherto unreleased commercial recordings and the occasional movie soundtracks. |
