This compilation begins in 1936 when Leon & Otis Rene and B. Ellison wrote 'The Juba', a rhmba in which the dancers clap hands, slap their thighs, and sing verses with juba as the refrain. It's sung here by Carroll's regular girl singer Anne Lenner, and the Australian violinist Brian Lawrance, then making a name for himself with his Lansdowne House Orchestra.
