CARROLL GIBBONSAND THE SAVOY HOTEL ORPHEANS
VOLUME 12, LET'S STOP THE CLOCK | |
Description:
This latest chronological compilation spans the outbreak of the Second World War, at which point Carroll was in America on holiday. He could have chosen to remain; but instead made haste to return to his adopted country, where he resumed his post at the famous white piano. The Savoy Hotel was far from a safe haven, and the effects of the Blitz were felt even though it did not suffer a direct hit. Throughout the war he continued to play, broadcast and record, contributing enormously to morale. The Savoy Orpheans was augmented for recording purposes. Carroll Gibbons achieved more than he could have dreamed of, and his enormous legacy of recordings will always keep his memory alive. |
