KENNY GRAHAM
AND HIS AFRO CUBANS
PRESENTING KENNY GRAHAM + BONUS TRACKS
Description:
Kenny Graham was a major presence on Britain's '50s jazz scene, both as a formidable tenor saxophonist and as a brilliantly gifted composer. His leadership of the Afro Cubists, a group reflecting his love of African music and rhythms, was one of the premier jazz groups of its time and included top line players such as Stan Tracey, Phil Seamen, Eddie Thompson and Sammy Stokes, all of whom are heard on this release. The 1957 album Presenting Kenny Graham allowed Kenny and his band to display their prowess through a variety of numbers including Kenny Graham originals inc. Cuban Fantasy, Bongo Chant and standards inc. Don't Get Around Much Any More, Rockin' in Rhythm, with plenty of solo space throughout for Kenny and his band mates. There are also bonus tracks in the form of two Afro Cubists' tracks Teddy Boy, Poinciana taken from the 1956 Tenorama album, plus two superb numbers performed by the Melody Makers All Stars, which included among others Joe Harriott and Allan Ganley, from the 1957 album All the Winners.
