GLEN GRAYAND THE CASA LOMA ORCHESTRA
SMOKE RINGS | |
Description:
When the Toronto roadhouse "The Casa Loma" was set to open in 1927, a band was hired. The hotel never opened, but the orchestra, an offshoot of the Jean Goldkette Band, more than survived. The Casa Loma Orchestra became the envy of all other big bands & paved the way for the swing era. Alto saxophonist Glen Gray eventually fronted the band, and from 1931 45, they notched up 64 hits. This collection features "Heaven Can Wait," "Blue Moon," "Smoke Rings" & others. |
