Description:
Herbie Hancock has always had a restless soul and a limitless vision. He made his first LP as a leader when he was only twenty two, then a year later joined Miles Davis's groundbreaking quintet. His writing and playing were an essential element of the Davis group's pioneering style but before the decade was out, he had left Davis and was leading bands of his own that bridged the gap between jazz, rock, and funk. In the Seventies Hancock's electric, funky side broke out altogether: Headhunters became the biggest selling jazz record of the decade. But he didn't rest there, either, returning to acoustic playing in the late Seventies. All that he has done since is continue to tour and record with both electric and acoustic groups, innovating the new while perfecting the old; win an Oscar for his composing; and move in ever wider creative circles. |
