PLAYS TADD DAMERON & THELONIOUS MONK

Description:
Barry Harris entered a New York studio in 1975, accompanied by bassist Gene Taylor and drummer Leroy Williams to record a session dedicate to the outstanding music of pianist, arranger and composer Tadd Dameron. The date produced the first eight tracks on this CD. Harris' first date after the Dameron commemoration session would be another dedication set, this time paying homage to his mentor and friend Thelonious Monk. Harris and Leroy Williams returned to the studio in 1977 accompanied this time by bassist Bill Lee. The recorded five of enigmatic pianist and composer Thelonious Monk's compositions, found here beginning with Epistrophy and ending with Light Blue. Also included is Harris' rare 1984 piano solo recording of Monk's Pannonica. Lastly a rendition of All God's Chillun Got Rhythm has been placed at the end of the CD as a bonus track, recorded in Montreux, Switzerland in 1978.
