Description:
The thrilling sound of Ted Heath and His Music is heard on CDLK 4357, which is Vocalion's fourth volume of this legendary British big band's rare, and in some cases unreleased – Decca recordings of the 1950s and '60s. Featuring Heath alumnus such as bassist Johnny Hawksworth, drummer Ronnie Verrell, trombonists Wally Smith and Keith Christie and trumpeters Bert Courtley and Bobby Pratt, this really is the Ted Heath big band at its most swinging, exciting best. In this volume there is an emphasis on material from stage, film and television. There are arrangements of music from films including Lawrence of Arabia, The Carpetbaggers, A New Kind of Love, The Victors and In the French Style as well as a selection of music from My Fair Lady of which one piece is presented here in stereo for the first time. Television is represented with the themes from Kipling Bombay Duckling and Saturday Night Beat from On the Braden Beat among others, and adding to this stimulating musical concoction are pieces such as trumpeter Lee Morgan's Sidewinder, Crazy Mixed Up Waltz previously unissued, Sucu Sucu, Johnny Hawksworth's Wigwam and much more besides. |
