ISHAM JONES
AND HIS ORCHESTRA
SWINGIN' DOWN THE LANE
Description:
Swingin' Down The Lane offers a rare survey of the multi talented Isham Jones. There are the biggest of his pre electric hits such as the two million selling Wabash Blues, Spain, I'll See You In My Dreams and, with Al Jolson no less, California, Here I Come. His 1930 'sweet' version of Stardust established the song as a classic. There are also two big hits with Bing Crosby Sweet Georgia Brown and Lazy Day. The band became hotter in the 30s with musicians such as Woody Herman who took over in 1936 Stompin' At The Savoy . . .. In 1947 Jones reformed his "Famous Orchestra" and remade fine versions with Curt Massey of some of his most enduring songs It Had To Be You, On The Alamo, Swingin' Down The Lane . . ..
