STAN KENTON
A MERRY CHRISTMAS! | |
Description:
When Capitol urged Stan Kenton to finally make a Christmas album in 1961, he took the high road, choosing classic hymns and holiday songs and orchestrating them for 13 brass plus rhythm. The result was this classic that avoids the cloying songs and cute gimmicks in favor of a stately but swinging holiday record. Added to the orginal album is the 1963 single "What Is Santa Claus?" with Stan Kenton in the role of narrator and a very hip Willie Maiden arranged "Christmas For Moderns' medley by Kenton alumnus Maynard Ferguson. |
