STAN KENTON

HORNS OF PLENTY, VOL. 1

Description:
This compact disc features not only fine performers, but brillant young composers who, without the availability of the Neophonic, might never have heared their works performed properly. The recording session, set up by Stan Kenton, took place on June 2 3, 1970 at Capitol Records Stidio "A" in Hollywood California. Three hour sessions in the morning and afternoon of each day were scheduled to lay down the original double LP release. The operation was designed as a fund raiser for the Collegiate group. The recording engineer, Carson Taylor, was the top classical engineer for London Records, a subsidiary of Capitol. Conducting duties rested with Bill Fritz on "Bygones" and "Toccata" and Jack Wheaton took the baton for the balance of the program. Editing and mixing functions, spread over three full days, were the responsibility of Carson Taylor and Jack Wheaton.
