STAN KENTON

NEW HORIZONS, VOLUME 2

Description:
2 CD set. Stan Kenton's mid sixties musical concept, the Los Angeles Neophonic Orchestra, was the root of subsequent neophonic orchestras. Plans to establish a neophonic orchestra on the east coast, under the direction of Johnny Richards, lacked the requisite financial backing, and the idea died. In 1972, Joel Kaye resurrected the concept, forming the New York Neophonic Orchestra. They eventually moved to Denver in 1988. This intruguing music, completely new to Denver's jazz musicians, challenged their imagination and skills. The Neophonic Jazz Orchestra expanded to over 225 arrangements.
