STAN KENTON

THE JAZZ COMPOSITIONS OF DEE BARTON

Description:
For its first appearnce on CD, the music has been remixed from the original four track tapes and mastered in 24 bit with great results.Fresh out of college, Dee Barton joined the Kenton orchestra in 1961 as a trombonist and contributed two outstanding charts to Adventures In Jazz. Midway through 1961 he switched to drums and remained with the band until the end of 1963. He rejoined in 1967, again on drums. During that tenure Kenton wanted to give Barton's brilliant writing greater exposure and, in an unusual move, recorded a whole album of one composer's material. The late '60s was a harsh time for jazz and this undeservedly obscure album was Kenton's one pure jazz album of the era. The music still sounds fresh, modern, and swinging 40 years later.
