BOBBY LAMBMEETS BOB FLORENCE
TRINITY FAIR | |
Description:
Bobby Lamb's Trinity Big Band is a top British jazz orchestra that is perhaps best known for being inspired by Stan Kenton. This set is a bit different in that the first five selections are originals arranged by Bob Florence, in addition to two Don Menza pieces, an obscurity from the Boyd Raeburn Orchestra "Forgetful", and an imaginative reworking of "Invitation." There are many fine soloists in the orchestra including the leader on trombone and spots for such guests as flügelhornist Kenny Wheeler who is rarely heard in this type of setting, altoist Pete King, and trombonist Mark Nightingale. The musicianship is top notch, the arrangements have their share of variety, and this is an easily recommended disc for fans of modern big bands. |
