LANIN'S SOUTHERN SERENADERS

SHAKE IT AND BREAK IT

Description:
Sam Lanin arranged sessions for the Gennett label in their New York Studios, producing no less than around 160 sides over a period of some five years up to 1926 under the name of Bailey's Lucky Seven. Where the band name originated remains obscure as there was no Bailey in or associated with the group. Indeed the group was for the most part made up of musicians from the Original Memphis Five augmented by other well known New York instrumentalists. The band played a mixture of popular tunes and semi hot numbers, and as may be expected from its personnel, highly competent. Bailey's Lucky Seven made its first recording in October 1921. This 24 track collection features music from 1921 22.
