Description:
Key members of the band, described as "Music Of Tomorrow By The Band Of Today", were Johnny Shakespeare, Ronnie Chamberlain, Jimmy Skidmore and Peter Coleman. However the most significant member of the organisation was the brilliant composer, arranger Ken Thorne who's futuristic scores did so much to set the style of the Lewis Orchestra. Vic had always acknowledged his love for the music of Stan Kenton and it must havbe been particularly inspiring when Kenton's chief arranger Pete Rugolo wrote some original music for a new big band Vic formed towards the end of 1949. |
