WINGY MANONE

1944-1946

Description:
This CD contains a particularly successful session Wingy Manone made for the small ARA label. Some of these tracks were also issued on Rex Hollywood, another tiny label notable for the few but amazing jazz records it issued at the time. Kay Starr sat in on an eminently swinging version of "If I Could Be With You" with Manone taking the second vocal that leads into a rousing finish on this excellent track. The first date for Joe Davis own label features Manone with a somewhat odd formation comprising swing veterans and modernist Chuck Wayne on guitar. Six months later he recorded in New York again with a studio formation. Back in California in late 1945, he made two fine tracks for Gilt Edge.
