Description:
Between 1953 and 1956 Mantovani made four successful mono albums of music by "American" song writing giants Irving Berlin, Victor Herbert, Sigmund Romberg and Rudolf Frimi. We say American, but in fact none of these musical colossi were American born; all were immigrants. Nevertheless, the music heard on those mono albums and on these tracks re vamped by Mantovani for stereo in 1958 and 1959 was all composed in America, so we can safely describe it as American. The selections paraded here are those processed for the burgeoning stereo market at the end of the 1950s, but unfortunately only a few of them were made available at the time for British enthusiasts. Until now they have not appeared on CD either, but thanks to Vocalion's vision we can all fully enjoy some of the loveliest light melodies ever written. In America these titles were issued in double album format under the title of All American showcase, and also as single albums. |
