In our latest excursion into Mantovani's back catalogue, we pay attention to two of his most pleasing stereo albums, 'Continental Encores', recorded in September 1958, and 'Mantovani/Manhattan', finalized in August 1963, have been unavailable for a very long time so their reappearance is long overdue. 'Continental Encores' includes European songs that were given English lyrics to become hits all over again, whereas the 'Manhattan' album was undoubtedly pitched at American audiences. Nevertheless many of its much loved themes had already travelled over the Atlantic to become popular with Brtish and European listeners. |
