Description:
Very little needs to be added to the many raves and plaudits which Ray McKinley had earned during his work with the Will Bradley orchestra and the Jimmy Dorsey orchestra before joining the American Band of the Allied Expeditionary Forces under the direction of Captain Glenn Miller. A Texan by birth, McKinley became a self taught drummer, and by his 26th birthday, had become what one leading critic described as 'the most original of all swing beat men with an uncanny conception and execution of new beats and breaks'. Following the end of the War, McKinley formed the first edition of his post war orchestra and, with his penchant for humorous novelty songs, added to his wonderful drumming, soon became regarded as one of the best front men in the music business. |
