THE GLENN MILLER STORY: CENTENARY COLLECTION - VOL. 17-20 | |
Description:
During this Glenn Miller centenary year, AVID Entertainment are proud to announce a programme of five lavishly re mastered 4CD Boxsets that document the story of the most popular bandleader of the twentieth century.
For this final volume Captain Glenn Miller now provides us with further delights from December 1943 through to June 1944 when he sailed to the UK. Initially based in London, Glenn and his musicians soon transferred to Bedford and continued with their hectic round of public appearances and broadcasts. As Major Glenn Miller, we jump to September 1944 and four sides recorded at Abbey Road Studios, which were not released until 1995. Then, poignantly, there's the BBC announcement that "Glenn Miller is missing". The legacy was continued by Jerry Gray and others after Miller's death and we can enjoy the accomplished contributions from Miller band alumni Tex Beneke leading his own and the first of the Glenn Miller 'ghost' orchestras, Ray McKinley and Jerry Gray on the final two discs of the set, taking our Glenn Miller Story up to 1956. |
