AMERICAN POPULAR SONG (WILDER IN THE CITY) | |
Description:
American Popular Song is a book written by the gifted composer Alec Wilder. Wittily and gracefully he examined about eight hundred of the three hundred thousand or so popular songs published between 1900 and 1950 in the United States. Twenty four of the songs which Wilder looked at are featured on this CD, in fact the only two tracks which are not featured in the book were written by Wilder himself they are "I'll Be Around" and "It's So Peaceful In The Country". Although Glenn Miller leads the band throughout the first seventeen tracks we also get a chance to hear it led by subsequent leaders after his disappearance, such as Jerry Gray, Ray McKinley and Tex Beneke. A most interesting CD and mini vignette of American Popular Music in the early 1940s. |
