Description:
In the days of the Big Bands there were many bandleaders who fancied themselves as vocalists as well as instrumentalists. But without doubt Vaughn Monroe was the most successful of them all. Although a prize winning trumpeter, when fame came to him it celebrated his talent as a singer. Affectionately once tagged 'The Mellow Bellow', his rich baritone voice scored a string of hits through the decade of the forties. This new release from Flare offers a handful of those hits, giving everyone the chance to hear again 'Ballerina', 'Cool Water', 'Riders in the Sky' and what superb tracks they are. In addition, the collection also offers a number of fine recordings that are much less well known. And what a great collection from the haunting opening 'At The Crossroads', to 'The Phantom Stage Coach' and 'Legend of Tiabi', they are all treasures. |
