German orchestra leader/arranger Werner Muller make his fifth appearance on Vocalion. The albums compiled on this release are from his Teldec discography, and the first – 'Werner Muller Plays Leroy Anderson' 1965 focuses on the compositions of thIs American light music legend. Muller turns his attention towards some of Anderson's most popular melodies, and in doing so creates sparkling arrangements of evergreens such as Fiddle Faddle, The Typewriter, Jazz Pizzicato and Blue Tango among several others. A very different album is found in Mozart 40 1971, which turns out to be a particularly interesting proposition as Müller tackles some of the most enduring classical melodies including Bach's Air on the G String, Albinoni's Adagio in G minor and Mozart's Symphony no.40 in G minor. He arranges them in his own inimitable style and thereby brings them up to date, '70s style. |
