RED NICHOLS / MIFF MOLE

Description:
Under rated for many years, a more than somewhat overdue re evaluation of the contribution that Red Nichols, Miff Mole and the rest of the so called 'New York' school made to jazz in the 1920s seems to be slowly getting under way. As a result, much of their prolific output under the names of 'Red Nichols Five Pennies', 'The Red Heads', 'The Charleston Chasers' and 'Miff Mole's Molers' has already been made available on CD, but these small label efforts have been overlooked. Liner notes are by jazz trumpeter and writer Richard M. Dick Sudhalter, who's new book, expected to reach the stores early next year 'Lost Chords', should do much towards reaching a properly balanced assessment of these artists. In the meantime, listen and enjoy for yourselves. This was the 1920s version of 'Cool' music. This CD contains all the recordings made by Red Nichols led groups for the U.S. Banner and Harmony labels.
